The 6 Types of Working Genius Workshop

Too many teams get stuck because they don't know how to tap into the people around them.

This interactive workshop is designed to change that. Using The 6 Types of Working Genius framework, it helps you understand your team’s gifts and frustrations.

As a result, your team can:

Fix your team’s frustrations … in less than a day

  • Improve productivity

  • Run better meetings

  • Decrease burnout

  • Increase innovation

  • Identify team gaps

  • And more

Patrick Lencioni - The 6 Types of Working Genius

About the framework – why is it so effective?

What it does

Working Genius identifies the six fundamental activities that are required for any type of work:

  • Wonder: identifying the need for improvement or change

  • Invention: confirming the importance of that need, and generating an idea or solution

  • Discernment: assessing the merit and workability of the idea or solution

  • Galvanising: generating enthusiasm and action around the idea or solution

  • Enablement: initiating support and assisting in the implementation of the idea or solution

  • Tenacity: ensuring the idea or solution gets completed and that results are achieved

How it applies to your team

Typically, each team member is a ‘genius’ in two of these activities. They’re also ‘competent’ in two others, and ‘frustrated’ in another two. These are their:

  • Working Geniuses: activities they are naturally good at that energise them

  • Working Competencies: activities they can perform competently but which don’t energise them

  • Working Frustrations: activities that don’t come naturally that drain them

How it improves results

By discovering each other’s geniuses, competencies and frustrations, you and your team can:

  • Leverage one another’s strengths: performing more of the work that energises you and propels your team forward

  • Manage around one another’s weaknesses better: performing less of the work that drains you and holds your team back

As a result, you’re more productive and collaborative as a team.

Can your team really change?

Yes it can – if you understand why it’s not working as well as it could be. But here’s the problem. Every day your team members carry unnecessary guilt and judgement about their frustrations at work – guilt about themselves and judgement about others.

All this frustration robs you and your team of energy and joy. It causes misunderstandings and can lead to quiet quitting, burnout and even depression. As a result, productivity suffers.

This is where The 6 Types of Working Genius can help because it reveals six activities or geniuses required to complete every task – and which of those geniuses you have within your team.

Typically, everyone is a genius in two of these activities, meaning they’re naturally gifted and energised by fulfilling two aspects of the task. They’ll also be competent at two other activities, although these will demand more of their energy and take greater effort. And another two of the activities will frustrate them, leading to a sense of guilt and failure at their apparent lack of productivity in these areas.

When team members understand each other's geniuses, competencies and frustrations, it helps to alleviate guilt and judgement. And it makes room for better cohesion and productivity.

As part of this workshop, you receive a team map which allows you to plan tasks and lean into each other’s strengths. This means you can collaborate more effectively as you see tasks through from start to finish. You can also identify gaps in your team, informing your decisions about staffing. Crucially, your team members are happier, more fulfilled, and more productive. The adjustments you make lead to better dialogue and understanding while each member benefits from a greater focus on work that gives them joy and energy.

FAQs

  • Workshops are designed for teams who want to apply the Six Types of Working Genius.

Workshops are not speeches, seminars, or lunch-and-learns. They are live and in-depth facilitated experiences. They are best for teams of 3-15 that regularly work together.

If you want to use Working Genius to increase team cohesion and productivity, a Workshop is a great next step.

  • First, you’ll schedule a FREE discovery call with me. We'll clarify your needs and consider your workshop options. Then we'll lay plans for your meeting, including a preview of the materials and setting you up for a great team experience.

Workshops vary in length according to your needs, but require a minimum 2.5 hours.

  • I specialise in helping “Not-Just-For-Profit” organisations deliver sustainable outcomes to achieve their goals.

This includes businesses as well as non-profits.

The services I offer are training, consulting, executive coaching, facilitating and speaking.

  • I have provided training for 20+ years.

Prior to my leadership consulting, coaching and training work, my background was in managing engineering projects and project management consultancy.

My accreditations include Maxwell Leadership, Patrick Lencioni’s Table Group and the Personality Insights Institute. I am also a fellow of the Institute for Leadership and Management and the Professional Speaking Association.

  • For your convenience, all services are arranged and provided online. Following your free discovery call and confirmation, I'll arrange everything, so all you need to do is click a link.

  • In your free discovery call, I'll work with you to determine your needs and follow up with the best solution that fits within your budget and time availability.

  • Yes, and here’s why:

Every day I see the difference it makes in organisations when they put a sustainable leadership strategy in place so that they can make the difference they set out to achieve. It breaks my heart when I see amazing charities and NFPs failing to make the impact they deserve purely because part of their leadership strategy isn't quite right.

If I could afford to, I'd work for free full-time, helping NFPs make the world a better place. Unfortunately, I cannot do that (yet!), but I give what I can.

I have pledged to offer 90-minute Executive Coaching (or Consulting) Sessions free to all not-for-profit organisations via the Make Good Grow platform (https://makegoodgrow.com/businesses/roger-fairhead/). To take advantage of this offer, complete the form, and I'll follow up with you promptly.

  • I provide a simple agreement which details the scope of the work, the agreed fees and how those fees will be invoiced.

It also offers a money back guarantee to ensure you receive excellent value for your investment.
