As a Project Manager in my early career, I noticed the relationship between good leadership and project fulfilment. Crucially, I learned that you can manage things, but you need to lead people.
The industry I worked in had tight profit margins (around 10%). In the projects I managed, it was easy to be a little too expensive and subsequently fail to secure business, or win the business by being a little underpriced and make a loss!
As a result, I learned the benefit of what John Maxwell calls “The Law of Curiosity” and discovered the best way to succeed was to find an innovative solution at a lower cost.
