Do you know what drives your team
and what motivates your team
to do what they do?
Understanding the difference between what drives your team, and what motivates your team and how to harness both of them, can create more growth, fulfilment, and satisfaction for your team and your organisation.
Before I knew the difference, I sometimes felt as though I was stumbling around somewhere in the dark. Of course, it’s much more difficult to walk around a place in the dark when you don’t know the layout: where the bathroom is, where the kitchen is, where the stairs are!
Relationships can sometimes feel like we’re stumbling round in the dark too. It would be really helpful if we knew the layout, or rather the personalities, involved.
It would really help to know:
whether they want to talk things over, or would rather have time to think things through;
whether they like to have loads of questions answered in detail, or just want the big picture;
whether they want to quantify exactly what the outcome will be, or how it will make people feel;
whether they’ll get to the end of the week and say: “we had a great time”, or “we got the job done”.
Understanding how to create a vision that is inspiring and compelling for your team is a vital part of effective leadership; understanding how to communicate that vision in every interaction with your team is fundamental to the effective delivery of your dream; after all, Leadership is about Imagination, Inspiration and Influence. But how do we do that?
“Leadership is …
intentional influence in the context of relationship”
~ Roger Fairhead
Employee engagement is at an all-time low, and research by Gallup based on over 100 Million global interviews tells us the reason: “It’s the manager”.
If you want to build a resilient and thriving team, you must ensure that they are enabled to make a personal contribution that helps them find meaning, enjoyment, value and fulfilment in their lives through their activities at work. This means gaining an understanding of each person in the team, the work they enjoy doing most, their personality, and their personal motivation for work, and is based on developing your emotional intelligence.
I have researched the best courses available to help you make that happen with your team, and I’ve worked to become a Certified Consultant and Facilitator in each model so that I can help you help your team to thrive in this post-pandemic world.
Working Genius from Patrick Lencioni
The Working Genius is Patrick Lencioni’s newest teamwork model, which helps people understand how they can contribute to work most effectively. This tool can help individuals, leaders and teams better leverage one another’s strengths and understand how to be both productive and fulfilled at work
As a Certified Working Genius Facilitator, I have received hands-on training from the Table Group team and been equipped with the tools and resources to help people leverage the Working Genius model with individuals, teams and organizations.
DISC
DISC is one of the oldest self-assessment tools that can be traced back to the 5th century BC and the writings of the Greek philosopher Empedocles. It has been revised since then and current models are largely based on the 1928 DISC emotional and behavioural theory of psychologist William Moulton Marston.
The model uses four quadrants of behaviour as predictable traits that we manifest in our everyday lives. The four quadrants are defined as Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Compliance, and help us to understand the underlying personality traits for ourselves, and more importantly for those around us.
I am Certified as a DISC Consultant by the John Maxwell Team and by Personality Insights
Motivational Maps
Used by over 70,000 people around the world, Motivational Maps are an accurate self-perception inventory based on three clusters of motivation: motivation through your relationships, motivation through your own achievements, and motivation through your individual growth.
Motivation is directly correlated to productivity. The more motivated we are, the more energy we have, and therefore the more productive we become. By harnessing the power of Motivational Maps, you can increase staff performance, whilst also meeting their motivators, so they come into work energised and raring to go!
I am a Motivational Maps Licenced Practitioner.
Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
The Emotional Quotient Inventory 2.0 (EQ-i 2.0) measures an individual’s emotional intelligence. Science and professional feedback from the EQ-i® strengthened the direction of this second-generation assessment. Now, it’s a complete experience with a new and intuitive model which generates a total EI score with five composite scores measuring distinct aspects of emotional and social functioning.
I am a Certified Practitioner for EQi 2.0.
