Digital indigestion
Nutrition, and the all you can eat buffet
Leadership has never been more important than in times of uncertainty, and we've not experienced as much uncertainty as we're facing now for several generations. At the same time, we have an enormous quantity of leadership advice coming our way from every direction, and it can seem like an "all you can eat buffet" of content.
However, even with all of this content coming our way it can be difficult to figure out what I should do next to lead my team most effectively at this time. We are getting digital indigestion with so much content available, without the opportunity to properly digest this content and turn "shelf development" into "self development".
The Global Leadership Network UK & Ireland (GLN) is the organisation that delivers the annual Global Leadership Summit (GLS) Premier Event in the UK.

The International Global Leadership Summit is one of the largest leadership conferences in the world, traditionally attracting an audience of many hundreds of thousands of visitors to the live event, either in person at the conference venue in Chicago, at a satellite site in the US, or via a digital stream. It is then translated into 60+ languages and taken to hundreds of other countries to be shared with an international audience.
Traditionally these have been annual in-person events hosted in different areas of each country. However, in 2020, because of the COVID Pandemic we had to change direction and deliver Digital Only streaming events. During the last 12 months in the UK, the GLN has brought over 20 events to a UK audience attracting several thousand unique visitors to engage with world class teaching from a richly diverse faculty of thought leaders and speakers.
In every event, we have also made sure to provide space to digest this digital content before moving on to the next morsel, on our mission: to engage with all who want to bring measurable change to their world to ignite transformation.
In the UK this has allowed us to bring more of the diverse GLS Faculty of World Class speakers to our UK audience through a series of monthly webinars to supplement the annual Autumn conference. It’s also allowed us to focus attention on additional vocational streams, which have included GLS-Health and GLS-Business streams this year, with more such opportunities to be explored in the coming years.
One of the key hallmarks of the GLS has always been the focus on “Community around Content”, also known as Process Time, where delegates spend time during the event discussing and processing the content of the talks in small groups, preferably with an experienced facilitator. During the 2020/21 season these Process Time sessions were facilitated by the GLN digitally using the Zoom platform using a team of experienced facilitators.
For the 2021/22 season we are again planning to deliver Digital First events with a focus on bringing:
Actionable content: a rich and diverse collection of world-class thought leaders and speakers
Balance: a steady digital diet, starting with the GLS in the Autumn and supplemented by monthly webinars through the spring and summer
Community: space for Community around Content to process and digest the content served up by each speaker
